The “VA English Challenge” Contest is a traditional academic playground for VAers across the VAschools system. With the requirement to use only English, “VA ENGLISH CHALLENGE 2022” will help spark the students’ interest in this second language. In addition, the contest will enhance the students’ skills such as listening, speaking, teamwork, thinking, and creativity as well as familiarizing them with the types of exercises used in examinations for Cambridge certificates.
1. QUALIFYING ROUND: CHALLENGE
Time: March 21 – March 25, 2022
Competition form: Individual performance online at home via Microsoft Teams.
Content: General English, Mathematics, Science, life and social knowledge according to the curriculum of each grade.
2. SEMI-FINAL ROUND: TALENT
Time: April 4 to April 8, 2022
Competition form: Video contest in artistic talent
Content: Contestants choose one of the following talents: singing with musical beats, poetry reading, play-acting, storytelling or monologue, then present it in video form within the time limit as required, and then send it to the organizing committee.
3. FINAL ROUND: TEAMWORK
Time: April 23 – April 28, 2022
Competition form: Group presentation on the given topic from 5-7 minutes. Recording and submitting presentation videos.
Content: According to the topics designed by the organizing committee for each grade.
Contestants who pass the semi-final will form into teams and present the topics given by the organizing committee.
- For grades 1 and 2: Groups of contestants prepare a complete presentation (possibly with illustrations such as props, animations, etc.).
- For grade 3, 4, and 5: Groups of contestants design and conceptualize a story based on the given topic, make drawings by hand on A0 paper, and present it on the competition day of the final round (possibly with illustrations such as props, animations, etc.). Simulating the form of Picture Story in YLE practice.
Note: All grades have 02 weeks to prepare for a complete presentation.
4. CLOSING AND RESULT ANNOUNCEMENT: May 7, 2022
The results are announced to the Representatives, and the prizes are presented to students of each VAschools’ branch.
